I went to work for Walt Disney at age 5 (1955) at Disneyland. My job was to ride at his side on the “Milk Wagon” as he opened the park each morning or in the evening to begin the Main St. Parade, which later turned into the “Electric Parade.”
I also worked at “Mickey’s Circus” in Disneyland, which later became the Mickey Mouse Club. “Mickey’s Circus” was a stage entertainment review located where “A Small World” was later built.
At age 7, I was asked to star in a motion picture called “The Half Pint.” This was the second feature that played with “Pollyanna”, which I also appeared in. These two movies played together all over the United States. I attended a premier at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood with Haley Mills and Kurt Russell, arriving together in a big black limousine.
In the following years I appeared on the “Ozzie & Harriet Show” and “Father Knows Best.” One of the most memorable events was eating lunch at the old Brown Derby Restaurant (when it was in the shape of a derby) with John Wayne and Red Buttons on either side of me. They were promoting the movie “Hatari” at the time.
I did attend a few reunions but by age 11, I was pretty much out of the business by choice. I now volunteer as the county's Film Commissioner to promote filming commercials and movies in our area.
